February 2011 Newsletter

Oops! Time flies when you’re on the road. Sorry for the delay  but I’ve been swamped since Jan 1, 2011.  It started with a visit to NAMM, the music industry manufacturer’s conference where I saw lots of cool gear and everyone from Bootsy Collins of P-Funk to Stevie Wonder show up to do some jamming, then it was on to the LA Art show (featured below), then a road trip: Miami for a night of Prime 112, Prime Italian, Set, Arkadia, then on a plane bleary-eyed for a trip to visit the new sports arenas, including Amway Arena in Orlando, Penguin Arena in Pittsburgh (I really like Pittsburgh!) and then New York city for SNOW, SNOW and more SNOW. Anyway, Welcome back…..

Bella Donna!

While most of the world’s leaders are drinking hot toddies in Davos, there are still some hard working Prime Ministers and Presidents who are focused on reviving their economy. Click on the photo for some other Italian beauties (ok, this is cheap). Any visitors to Davos? Care to share some thoughts?

The LA Art Show

The LA Art Show has finally grown up. It’s left the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica after a rain drenched affair a few years ago had all the dealers scrambling to keep their inventory from floating away and moved downtown to the LA Convention Center. Click on the link and see some of the great works, some thoughts on art “grazing” and a smattering of other cheeky comments on the whole affair.

Tangara Tarifa

In the last newsletter, we had a ski vacation recommendation from one of our members. We’ve shifted our focus back to the beach, with the Spanish capital for wind, surf, nightlife and fun, Tangara Tarifa. Click through to the blog post on the Flying Vips website and you’ll see an amazing place and a great idea for an active vacation.

Surf and Wind

There’s something about getting on the road that I love. No matter how many times you visit a place, when you are up in the clouds, over 35,000 feet above dear mother earth, there is something so awe-inspiring about it. Really, don’t be so world weary and jaded about it.  Going around the world at 600 miles an hour, not in some horse driven carriage, not in a rotting wooden boat like the world travelers before us. Sure the food is sometimes awful, even in first class, some kid is crying in business class..whatever, it’s just you, the clouds, the earth….

Surf and Wind

To those of you who asked about our Facebook page,  are you sitting down? We are now on Facebook-not in a big way but in a little way but it’s a start. So go to Flying VIPs with a space between FLYING and VIPS.  We even have a sidebar button!  Send me your updates, post them on Facebook or become a blogger-it’s not that hard. And happy New Year to our Chinese members and all those celebrating the year of the rabbit.

Kung Hei Fat Choy!  恭喜發財!
