September 2010 Newsletter

As the summer draws to an end (at least in some parts of the world),  I am happy to say that the site has reached a bit of a tipping point. After reaching out to a number of you on the Hotel and Hotel Bar Survey, I find myself absolutely swamped with posts you have sent in to recommend your favorites. So I am behind and I think this is a good sign for the site. Throughout the website you will find some of the the results, like from Ash about great Hotels and Hotel scenes in Australia…And with so many contributors to the hotel survey, only 4 hotels were mentioned more than once-that’s pretty interesting! Another big takeaway from this survey is that many of you want to contribute tips, you just want it easy-now that is, of course relative-so real, real easy?

Just respond to this newsletter with tips,  or to anything you want to discuss or recommend-that’s right press return and write away and we will get it shape for a post, including pictures if you don’t have any. Or register and post and comment…if you dare..

Survey Results and Recommendations

Below find three of the highlights of the Hotel and Hotel Bar Survey  as well as highlights from the Exotic Vacations and Treks (more of both to be found throughout the site)

With lots of survey results in, the home page has  new recent posts, a latest news post on an amazing bike trip you can plan in Palma Majorca and new rotating  pictures from around the world. The picture below is of the San Clemente Hotel in Venice…

People Make The World Go Round

It’s so true, so it’s a cab driver in DC who surprises you with his incredible knowledge of world politics, to the salesmen in the men’s clothing boutique to the tour guide on your safari to the happy guy behind the griddle singing out loud. The below link is to Roden Crater, a fascinating project created and being undertaken by artist Jonathan Turrell, an expert in light and images who literally bought a crater in the desert and is turning it into a giant telescope. It got contributed as an exotic vacation or trek and I think it easily fits into that category.

A Medieval Town with a Great of a Medieval Festival

One of my artist friends took a bicycle trip through the island of Gotland in Sweden. The highlight of the trip was not only visiting the Medieval town of Visby-a UNESCO Heritage site but also the site of a rip-roaring medieval festival.

Summer is ending and even at the end of the day in Africa, the beautiful skies trumpet a change in seasons…..Los Angeles has had a foggy, mild summer  (some might call it miserable!) and I can only hope that those Santa Ana winds will come in from the desert and bring some warm fall breezes up our canyon.

And finally, to those of you who asked about our Facebook page, well, we haven’t gotten to it yet but will soon! That’s all for this week. Hope you get involved, let us know if you have any questions (email us at support@flyingvips.com), need any help with upcoming trip advice, have any suggestions or want to invite some other like-minded world travellers!

Zbogom!!!

Chris
