3 for 3 on the Chicago Recommendations

Well, I was in Chi-town for some r&r, to show my son some schools, the happy Northwestern and rather unhappy, but none the less pretty campus at U of Chicago and read the recommendations to our Chicago question and well, ALL WINNERS!!!! as follows:

elysian

Hotel Elysian: Perfect location near Rush and all the shopping, new hotel so its not a hip remodel with problems,

the driveway is a real one so you can take a car in and out (thank god), the bar is great and the people who work there are fantastic…but a few comments. They treid to clean my room at 8am and claimed they knocked because I hadn’t put my little “Do Not Distribute” sign outside-Girl, don’t make me work so hard! Also, my wife and I got in to a big debate about this hotel. Everyone is trained to be super nice and that means being somewhat intrusive-once they ask you a question they start telling you about their lives..and they all love LA, my home town….so I think there’s alot to be said for being invisible in a hotel..wonder, which do you prefer?

gibsons

Gibsons: We ate outside, we had a heater and one of the best steaks in my life with amazing sides, while we listened to the screams of Blackhawk fans….highly recommend-as was recommended to me. Old world, nice cocktails….

pancakehouse

Last and certainly not least, drum roll please, THE ORIGINAL PANCAKE HOUSE-I was waiting for Heidi to come out of this quaint old house and start yodelling-instead I got really nice corn fed waitresses, supper fast, super good, getting me flapjacks, sausage patties (real), orange juice, lots of Italian tourists outside sitting around, a perfect combo of weather, location and great grub.

the sutton hotel is right next to Gibson’s, in the heart of the action and has good rooms, good rates and a pretty decent restaurant according to one of our active domestic Diamond travelers who is lately on her own nickel with a startup.
